About Wild Soul.
About
My first African wildlife experience was on safari in the Masai Mara. As many before me, I fell in love with Africa; the sky, the red dirt, the people!
An African safari, a bucket list dream, instantly switched to a passionate calling to return to Africa, with a boots-on-the-ground commitment to protect and advocate for wild animal lives in Africa and beyond. Dreams over 30 years (night time dreams) of animals, and particularly animals in distress, continue to create a bridge between the inner and outer world. Hence, Wild SOUL Conservation. A destiny line for me along the Soul’s path: to act in the world, to help protect wildlife.
For two months each year I return to Africa to work alongside conservation teams.
What IS wildlife conservation? Conservation interventions I have participated in are:
- Daily ID monitoring of rhino, cheetah, lion, leopard, and elephant populations within the reserve
Rhino
- rhino dehorning
- collecting DNA samples for forensic kits
Cheetah
- translocation of males in and out of the reserve to diversify bloodlines
- assisting researcher to test for TB exposure in cheetah populations
- helping vet team perform surgery in the bush
Pangolin
- assisting in rehabilitation of pangolins rescued from poachers
- reintroducing rehabiliated pangolins into the wild
Elephant
- attaching GPS collars to the matriarch in each of 6 small herds in the reserve.
- creating elephant ID kits
Lion
- translocation of males in and out of the reserve to diversify bloodlines
- DNA blood draws for translocation requirements
